Coming Home to Writing

When I pressed "Publish" on CLASH, I realised something, it wasn't just another book release, it felt like coming home.

The last few years have been filled with rewrites, new covers, learning new marketing skills, rebuilding my website and trying to become a better storyteller.

Much of that work happened quietly behind the scenes, where no-one except me could see what was happening and the progress I was making.

So, while the work wasn't always visible, I know that every single step has mattered.

That kind of work is frustrating, not because it's difficult--well, who am I kidding, rewriting your own work is like peeling your eyeballs. It's frustrating because you don't see an immediate outcome.

Today, though, releasing a new book, putting a new story in the world, that really feels like 'moving the needle'.

And that's why I started writing in the first place.

Seeing messages from friends, readers and fellow authors saying, "It's so good to see you back," "Fantastic you're back at the keyboard," reminded me that writing has always been more than putting words on a page.

It's about sharing stories that connect with people and translating my own life experiences into stories that other people can enjoy.

CLASH is the fourth book in my Style Strike series, but to me it also marks the beginning of a new chapter in my publishing journey.

I'm already plotting the next book and looking forward to spending more time with these characters and bringing some kind of resolution to Sam MacAvoy's tormented life.

Cross your fingers for that one. I've been avoiding Sam's story for many years...it's a little too close to the bone for me in some areas, but I'm feeling ready to 'tackle the tough problems' now.
