Thursday's teaser comes from THE FAN - now free at Amazon, Smashwords & other ebook retailers.
"He's going to sing Two Become One." The Elvis lookalike named Steve wedged himself even closer to her body. Caitlin's reacted with a surprising flush of desire. Steve had picked up on the opening bars of the song they'd all been waiting for.
Caitlin’s heart raced. Every night, during Two Become One, Julian pulled some lucky woman from the audience to serenade in front of thousands of screaming fans. She'd watched with increasing jealousy as, concert after concert, he'd picked one after another of the gorgeous girls from the first few rows and pulled them up on stage. Caitlin didn't dare hope that tonight he'd pick her.
It suddenly became daytime around her.
"Caitlin, he's chosen you!" Around her, hysterical screaming erupted. Her Elvis lookalike pushed her from behind, the crowd in front opened and she slid, like a heavy pebble through sand, to the front barrier.
A couple of hefty security guards lifted her up as if she weighed nothing and delivered her on stage into the arms of her idol.
Julian spoke to her, directing his words away from the microphone, "What's your name?"
He addressed the crowd, as the song's extended intro continued. "Say hello to Caitlin, everyone."
She heard her own name echoing off the lips of twenty thousand people. She thought her brain would shut down with the shock.
Julian pulled her close. So close she could take in the musky scent of him. He'd been on stage for nearly an hour and his hard body radiated heat. She'd been warm in the crowd below, but here, up on stage, the temperature ratcheted up. Was it the lights - or the proximity of the man she'd been obsessing about for years? She couldn't be sure.
Julian sang his way through the first verse, words she knew, but which seemed strange and foreign because of her idol's close proximity. He didn't take his eyes off her. Caitlin's body prickled with desire. She could have been the only woman in the world - he made her feel like the only woman in the world and somewhere, in the deep recess of her mind, she knew thousands of women wished they stood in her place.
